Waiting
I hate waiting! The idea of Disneyland waiting in line for 45 minutes per ride is not a happy thought. Or simply waiting in line at the grocery store. I find myself jockeying for the shortest line no matter how short the line is. God seemingly rewards me with finding the line with the super coupon shopper paying with a check! Or waiting for important phone call. Or waiting for the computer to open a program. In my impatience, I start randomly hitting buttons and things go from inconveniently slow to worse and end up with a frozen screen. I wonder if God smiles or laughs or maybe God is trying to teach me something…
Does my impatience strike a cord with you? Can you relate? If so, you may or may not find solace in the counsel of God’s Word.
“Be strong, and let your heart take courage all you who wait for the Lord!” Psalm 31:24
The Bible’s answer to a very short “waiting” fuse: Wait on the Lord! Ugh! More waiting. But wait a minute before moving to another possible solution. The line may be shorter somewhere else, but the longer waiting line before the Lord may come with some benefits that are worth the wait…
“…those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk an not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Waiting in line doesn’t do much and its not a whole lot of fun. But, it seems crystal clear that waiting on the Lord has some very positive benefits. So, the next time you're experiencing a wait time, make good use of it and wait on the Lord. I have the feeling your wait time will fly by because you are now on eagle’s wings.
